Quezon City (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) launched the Walang Gutom Kitchen on December 16, 2024. Located at the former Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) hub in the Nasdake Building, Pasay City, this initiative goes beyond providing food—it’s about offering hope.
The kitchen showcases compassion by feeding vulnerable populations and turning surplus food into sustenance, highlighting that even the smallest actions can have a lasting impact. Every meal served is a step toward a hunger-free nation.
It will serve as an open kitchen for families and individuals in street situations through its Pag-Abot program, as well as for those experiencing involuntary hunger.
According to DSWD Secretary Gatchatlian, it is a partnership between the public and private sectors dedicated to reducing food waste.
“This Walang Gutom Kitchen is a food bank kung saan ang private sector at ang public sector ay magsasanib pwersa para mabawasan ang wastage ng pagkain at matugunan ang problema ng kagutuman sa Metro Manila at later on, when we expand this type of food banks, nationwide,” he added.

The food bank will be supplied with donations from private sector partners in the food industry, and individuals can also contribute.
How can I donate and volunteer?
Secretary Gatchalian noted that the Walang Gutom Kitchen will follow the guidelines outlined in Republic Act No. 9803, also known as the Food Donation Act of 2009, which encourages the donation of wholesome food for charitable purposes.
The Walang Gutom Kitchen will accept any type of food or drink donation, whether from individuals or businesses with excess food. As long as the donations come from the private sector and comply with the law, DSWD will gladly accept them to feed and distribute to hungry Filipinos every day.
If you wish to donate or volunteer, you can contact Ramil Mapoy at 0916-829-7202 or visit the Walang Gutom Kitchen at the Nasdake Building, Pasay City. (GLDG/PIA-NCR)
