PASIG CITY (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) and the Republic of Korea have joined forces to further strengthen Universal Health Care.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa and South Korea Ministry of Health and Welfare Minister Jung Eun-kyeong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 20 which highlights the strong cooperation between the two countries.
The cooperation is based on the mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to
strengthen and modernize the Philippines’ healthcare system and public services in various sectors in line with the Universal Health Care.
According to DOH, the MOU highlights the solid cooperation in the implementation of public health programs, health promotion, health human resource development and management, implementation of mental health programs and services, digital health, health financing, and pharmaceutical development and bio-manufacturing, particularly in the research and development (R&D) of vaccine production in the Philippines.
The DOH added that South Korea has also played a major role in strengthening the use of technology in various primary care services, such as the ultraportable X-ray used to reach remote areas in the Philippines that lack health facilities.
As one of the leading global AI hubs, the Republic of Korea can help the Philippines strengthen the capabilities of healthcare workers, as well as health systems in big data and AI training. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
