NYC challenges youth to be like Rizal

MANILA, June 24 (PIA) - The National Youth Commission (NYC) challenged young people to “be like Rizal” during the commemoration of the 154th birthday of national hero Jose Rizal.

“Rizal is a young hero.  At 25, he finished the Noli Me Tangere and at 30, the El Filibusterismo,” NYC Chairperson Gio Tingson said during the opening of Jose Rizal Museum in Calamba, Laguna last June 19, 2015.

The youth commission cited technological and global advancements in its challenge to young people.

“Today, we live in a more globalized world: young people are more connected with each other,” remarked Tingson citing also the young people’s global mobility.

“154 years after our national hero’s birth, our channels and context have become different but the challenges of the Filipino remain.  Young people’s creativity and idealism offline can be magnified online.  This is an opportunity for this generation,” Tiongson added. (NYC/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
