MANILA, May 31 (PIA) – In celebration of the Philippine Heritage Month this May and the 70th Anniversary of Philippine-UK Diplomatic Relations, the Philippine Embassy in London successfully screened one of the most successful and highest grossing Filipino historical, biographical film ‘Heneral Luna.’
The critically-acclaimed film enthralled both the Filipino and British audiences during its run at the renowned Regent Street Cinema, the birthplace of British Cinema.
Speaking before a full-house on both screenings, Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Evan P. Garcia cited the growing international recognition conferred on a number of Philippine-made films and called on the audience to continue supporting Filipino films.
The Ambassador also expressed appreciation to Lahing Kayumanggi and the Wonder Foundation for partnering with the Embassy in bringing Heneral Luna to London.
Lahing Kayumanggi is a London-based dance company that promotes Philippine cultural heritage through music, song, and dance. It is a recipient of the Presidential Banaag Award in 2006 “in recognition of its unwavering dedication to artistic excellence, raising the cultural awareness and ethnic pride of the Filipino community in the United Kingdom, and supporting cultural and humanitarian activities in the Philippines.”
