Makati re-trains 600 MAPSA traffic aides

MAKATI CITY, Aug. 01 (PIA) -- To improve their professional competence, ethical practices, and public service, some 600 Makati Public Safety Department (MAPSA) traffic enforcers have been ordered to strictly undergo a re-training by the city mayor.

“There is an immediate need for our MAPSA traffic enforcers to undergo re-training on traffic rules and traffic management. Their training will also include values formation and personality development so that they can perform their jobs with competence, integrity and decorum,” Binay said in a statement posted on the local government website (makati.gov.ph).

The refresher course will run from Aug. 27 to Sept. 17 of this year, the MAPSA said.   Binay also encouraged the public to report erring MAPSA enforcers through the city’s official Twitter account, @MakatiTraffic, and My Makati on Facebook.

It can be recalled that MAPSA enforcers have been the object of criticism and ridicule in some social media sites. Netizens were quick to point out those riding a motorcycle without a helmet, and accused some of wrongful apprehension, extortion and rudeness.

Ricardo G. Suarez, officer-in-charge of MAPSA, said the training will cover topics aimed to improve their professional competence, promote ethical practices and personality development, among others.

Meanwhile, city personnel officer Vissia Marie P. Aldon said the casual employees of MAPSA whose contracts ended last June 30, 2016 can re-apply as has been practiced in government. (ICRD/RJB/JCP/PIA-NCR)
