MANILA, Oct. 12 (PIA) – Around 2,000 students participated in the recently held Letter Writing Day at SM North EDSA Cinema 10 and in selected SM Supermall branches nationwide.
With the theme “Sulat ng Bayani sa Henerasyon Ngayon,” the event was held in celebration of World Post Day, in partnership with SM Supermalls and the Department of Education.
“We wanted to build and nurture a sense of social commitment, nationalism and love for country. Our heroes were willing to risk their lives to help other people,” Assistant Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos said.
PHLPost expressed hopes that the activity will provide them the venue to learn the ideals and recommendations embodied in their letters.
The postal service also encouraged the youth to express their thoughts and hopes through letter writing.
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will gather all the letters made by the participating students for a chance to win P10,000 for the first prize, P7,000 – second prize and P3,000 – third prize.
The National Letter-writing Day is a national event coinciding with the worldwide celebration of World Post Day. It is celebrated every 9th of October to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital of Berne. It aims to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.
