MANILA, (PIA) — The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) revealed the current rankings of the top billionaire cooperatives in Metro Manila and offered guidance to cooperatives aspiring to join the billionaire ranks.
During Tuesday’s edition of the “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” media forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region (PIA-NCR), CDA-NCR Director Pedro T. Defensor Jr. noted that while the list is “not final,” ACDI Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ACDI MPC) stands as the leading cooperative in Metro Manila, for now, with around 1,350 operating in the capital region.
“Hindi pa final ‘yung ranking but definitely, the number one right now is the ACDI Multi-Purpose Cooperative, ang nasa top five natin ay normally government-based po. Andyan si PLDT, si PAFCPIC, si AFPFC, at anyan din si BJMP,” he said.
The ACDI MPC, based in Taguig City, is an institutional cooperative serving members from the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other uniformed personnel, including those who are in active service, retirees, in the reserved force, regular civilian employees, and their dependents.
As of 2023, according to its website, it is the largest cooperative in the country with an asset base of more than P54 billion and operates a total of 144 offices strategically located across the entire Philippines.
In offering guidance to cooperatives aspiring to join the billionaire ranks, Defensor emphasized the importance of having a clear vision.
“What you want to have is a clear vision of where you want to go,” he said.
The official encouraged cooperatives to outline actionable steps toward achieving their goals.
Defensor then shared a success story of a cooperative that, initially targeting a five-year timeline to reach billionaire status, was able to achieve this in just three years by focusing on reducing delinquency rates.
“You need to engage your members,” Defensor advised. “Those who patronize the services of the cooperative are your members.”
He also stressed that member engagement is crucial for increasing share capital and overall business patronage.
“The more members support the cooperative, the greater the capital inflow,” he noted. “The dream of becoming a billionaire cooperative will no longer be a dream but a reality.”
It can be recalled that the CDA is an agency dedicated to promoting the viability and growth of cooperatives as tools for equity, social justice, and economic development.
The Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, a weekly, nationwide project of the Presidential Communications Office and the PIA, highlighted the CDA’s commitment to fostering cooperative development, encouraging more organizations to strive for growth and sustainability in their operations. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
