QC Mayor approves hawker’s holiday in designated sites

QUEZON CITY, Nov. 25  (PIA)--Mayor Herbert Bautista has approved a hawkers’ holiday or moratorium on street vending in 22 recommended sites to enable street vendors to legitimately pursue their livelihood during the Christmas season.
During the moratorium, the city government will only allow vending activities on approved and regulated vending sites so as not to cause obstructions to both pedestrians and vehicular traffic in the city.
According to Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD) OIC Marilou Arrieta, 22 vending sites for 802 vendors shall be covered by the moratorium, which will take effect starting today, November 24, until January 8 next year.
The approved vending sites are:
  • along Congressional Avenue near the corner of Abra Street
  • along Congressional Avenue in front of the Congressional Bowling Arcade
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) in front of BATODA terminal
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) in front of St. Peter Church
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) from Ever Gotesco Mall going towards New Capitol Estates I
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) in front of SB Plaza/barangay hall
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (west lane) from Villongco St. to Bicol-Leyte Street
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) in front of Kristong Hari Parish Church, from Kasunduan Street
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) after Commonwealth Elementary School to Kaunlaran Street
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) after Kiko Mart
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) after IBP Road
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (west lane) fronting Commonwealth market
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) in front of Shell Gas Station
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (west lane) in front of Puregold
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (west lane) in front of KFC near the corner of Tandang Sora Avenue
  • along Katipunan Avenue near the corner of Commonwealth Avenue
  • along Commonwealth Avenue (east lane) fronting Mercury Drug in Citi Mall along Philcoa area
  • along Masaya Street
  • along Elliptical Road, easement in front of the National Housing Authority
  • along Kalayaan Avnue near the corner of Elliptical Road
  • along Quirino Highway from Don Julio Gregorio Street to corner Franco Street in Bagbag
  • along Luzon Avenue, sidewalk parallel to MWSS property fronting the Luzon talipapa
     
The grant of the moratorium or hawkers’ holiday requires the use of uniform temporary stalls or tents not exceeding an area of two square meters, payment of required taxes and fees, endorsement from concerned barangays, maintenance of cleanliness and voluntary dismantling of vending stalls at the end of the moratorium period.   
 Pedestrian footbridges are not included in the grant of the moratorium.
Monitoring and implementation of the moratorium will be coordinated by MDAD with the QC Police District (QCPD), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), QC Department of Public Order and Safety and concerned barangays.
