30k jobseekers ‘troop’ to virtual Kalayaan job fair

CALOOCAN CITY, June 13 (PIA) -- The labor department’s online job fair drew 30,890 jobseekers nationwide while 300 of them were assured of immediate employment on June 12, Independence Day.

Citing a report from the Bureau of Local Employment, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that of the total jobseekers who registered, 7,176 of them were qualified to the different job vacancies

Of those who qualified, 307 jobseekers were hired-on-the-spot, he added.

Meanwhile, 1,023 were near-hires or those who were considered hired, but still need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to undergo further interviews or exams to fully qualify for the job.

Bello said that these are only initial figures as reports come in from the DOLE Regional Offices.

Conducted in 16 regions, the labor department’s online Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan job and business fair offered 58,211 local and overseas vacancies.

Among the 35,839 local employment opportunities are for customer service representatives, production operators, factory workers, security guards, caption writers, and live notetakers.

Meanwhile, among the 22,372 overseas employment opportunities are for nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists, mechanics, and cleaners.

Aside from facilitating employment, the labor department also referred 233 jobseekers to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for further skills training or re-tooling, 121 jobseekers to the DOLE’s Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns for livelihood training, and 250 jobseekers to the Department of Trade and Industry for business inquiries and concerns.
