Steps to secure Safety Seal certification for your business

by: JIMMYLEY E. GUZMAN

Does your business establishment already have a Safety Seal?

A Safety Seal is a seal of good housekeeping issued by government agencies, which affirms than an establishment has been found compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government, including the adoption of StaySafe.ph or local government unit-mandated digital contact tracing app.

Pursuant to the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 21-01, Series of 2021 issued by the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Health, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Tourism, and the Department of Trade and Industry, establishments are enjoined to check their eligibility against the compliance checklist and apply for a Safety Seal Certification.

The DTI issues the Safety Seal for supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, membership shopping clubs, construction supply/hardware stores, logistics service providers, barbershops and salons, and service and repair shops.

Application can be made via online by visiting: www.dti.gov.ph/safetyseal and click "Apply Here."

Follow the online prompts until the application is completed. Wait for an authorized inspector to validate your Safety Seal checklist.

Upon validation, wait for the official Safety Seal to be sent to your registered email address. Print the Safety Seal following appropriate specifications, and post conspicuously on your business establishment.

Another mode is by application wherein the applicant performs self-assessment using the downloaded Safety Seal checklist.

The applicant contacts the DTI to schedule inspection then personnel from the department will conduct inspection.

If found eligible, DTI provides the seal in digital or printed format. If with deficiencies, applicant to correct actions and process to Step 2 for re-assessment.

Also a mode of application is by visit.

Issuing authority conducts regular monitoring and inspection.

If a business establishment is eligible, DTI provides the seal in digital or printed form.

If with deficiencies, however, an applicant is to correct actions and contact the DTI for re-assessment.
