MANILA, (PIA) -- The DOST-Phivolcs will officially launch on Friday, July 16, its proprietary How Safe Is My House? mobile app, and kick off the 3D Philippines (3DPH) Program in commemoration of the 1990 Luzon Earthquake.

The online event dubbed, InfoSentro sa Phivolcs, will introduce the agency's latest technology products aimed at keeping the public safe from the effects of devastating ground shaking.

The How Safe Is My House? app, which will be launched by Phivocls officer-in-charge and concurrent DOST undersecretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., is a tool to self-evaluate the safety of 1-2-story concrete hollow block buildings and understand their likely vulnerabilities to a strong earthquake.

It promotes awareness on proper construction practices and standard
design, and highlights the importance of structural integrity in protecting lives and properties.

On the other hand, the 3DPH Program, Phivolcs said aims to provide a platform for efficient management and easy-to-access surface and sub-surface information in the Philippines.

"With 3DPH, there will be enhanced visualization and analysis of information such as soil type to support geoscience, geotechnical, and earthquake engineering research," it told the PIA-NCR.

"Communicating the results to the stakeholders will be improved, thus contributing to science-based applications such as land use planning, zoning ordinance formulation, and site-specific hazard and risk assessment," it added.

Its kickoff will be led by Mabelline T. Cahulogan, supervising science research specialist, and moderated by Dr. Ma. Mylene M. Villegas,
chief science research specialist of DOST-Phivolcs. (PIA-NCR)
