PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), through the Regional Training Center National Capital Region (RTC-NCR), continues to provide free training to upskill the Filipino workforce amid the pandemic.

After its establishment under the leadership of TESDA Director-General Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, RTC-NCR has been steadfast in providing free training and assessment on Ship’s Catering Services (SCS) NC I that is considered as one of the core requirements for application as Messman in the maritime industry.

According to TESDA, the SCS NC I course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of stewarding in accordance with industry standards. It covers core competencies such as mess hall service, housekeeping service and providing assistance in receiving and storing provision and supplies.

As the current sole TESDA Technology Institution (TTI) offering the SCS NC I course for free, the RTC-NCR is regularly accepting applicants with priority to returning/repatriated OFWs, outbound seafarers, and those who are aspiring to become a certified seafarer in the future.

Currently, the RTC-NCR was able to train more than 200 trainees and assessed and certified more than 200 individuals both for mandatory (scholar) and outside clients.

In addition, the RTC-NCR is also set to open another maritime related course next year which is the Ship’s Catering (Ship’s Cooks) NC III based on the current demand of numerous applicants who wish to become a certified Ship’s Cook. (TESDA-NCR/PIA-NCR)
