CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and
Highways (DPWH) announced the start of civil works for the ₱234-million pumping
station in the flood-prone Barangay Veinte Reales in Valenzuela City.
During its groundbreaking ceremony, DPWH Senior
Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, said the importance of such flood mitigation
structures which strengthen the country’s resilience on the widespread impacts
of global climate change.
Valenzuela 1st District Representative Wes Gatchalian
recalled how the residents and businesses around the area of Barangay Veinte
Reales would suffer from devastating high floods.
The mega pumping station project implemented by DPWH Metro
Manila 3rd District Engineering Office (MM3DEO), is expected to address the
city’s perennial flooding problem as well as of neighboring areas along
Meycauayan River.
Once the flood control project is completed, it will
complement the 17 existing pumping stations in Valenzuela City. (DPWH/PIA-NCR)
