QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) laid out its solutions to address issues plaguing the public transportation sector during the second episode of the "Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas" (KBP) forum held on June 4.
The event, organized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) through the 16 regional offices of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), aimed to keep the public informed about the government's initiatives and achievements. It was simultaneously broadcasted across all regions via the PIA's Facebook pages.
DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Jesus Ferdinand "Andy" Ortega kicked off the discussion by providing updates on various programs, including the Public Transport Modernization Program, Active Transport initiatives, EDSA Busway and Greenways, Service Contracting Program, and projects in Cebu and Davao.
Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino reported on rail projects in Metro Manila and other regions designed to improve and expand the passenger experience.
Captain Edgardo Diaz, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Deputy Director General for Operations, discussed airport projects, implementation of night-rating systems, and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) schemes for airport projects.
Engr. Marc Anthony Pascua, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) NCR Regional Director, talked about maritime sector initiatives, including the legalization of wooden-hulled passenger ships, ship safety compliance and monitoring, streamlining of requirements for ship document issuance, and MARINA's proposed organizational structure and blockchain system.

The media forum was held at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Quezon City.
An audio-visual presentation highlighted the DOTr's mission to provide a Comfortable, Accessible, Safe, Sustainable, and Affordable (CASSA) transportation system.
