MANILA, (PIA) — To support small business owners and boost the local economy, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval announced a 100% tax exemption for sari-sari stores and carinderias (small eateries) for the year 2025.
“While we continue to provide services, we also aim to improve the lives and livelihoods of Malabuenos. I’m pleased to announce that sari-sari store and carinderia owners will not need to pay taxes this year. This decision comes after hearing your requests,” Mayor Jeannie said.
The tax exemption follows the City Council’s approval of City Ordinance 01-2025, known as the “Pagbibigay-Luwag sa Buwis Negosyo ng mga Sari-Sari Store at Karinderyang Malabueno,” on January 7, 2025.
This exemption applies to all sari-sari stores and carinderias, except those involved in additional business activities, such as car repair or entertainment venues like karaoke bars.
The Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) said businesses that have already renewed their permits for 2025 will see the tax exemption take effect in 2026.
It clarified, however, that while the tax is waived, owners must still pay regulatory fees and other charges for 2025.
Business owners who have not yet renewed their permits can visit the BPLO office on the third floor of Malabon City Hall for assistance with the tax discount, bringing a copy of their tax order of payment.
“The city government remains your ally. This step aims to ease your burden and recognize your vital role in our community,” Mayor Jeannie added.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete emphasized that the tax exemption is a gesture of gratitude to entrepreneurs who contribute to the economy while serving fellow Malabuenos.
“This will certainly help them meet their families’ needs,” Rosete said. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
