QUEZON CITY, 14 February (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the construction activities for the Makati underpass project that will start in April.
DPWH chief Secretary Rogelio L. Singson said civil works will immediately start after the completion of pre-construction activities by March.
“As early as now, I appeal for the understanding of the motorists and commuters on any inconvenience the project may cause as I have directed the contractor to maximize project time schedule. The Department is also coordinating with the MMDA and the Makati officials for the traffic management within the vicinity,” said Singson.
According to DPWH, the project aims to address traffic congestion within Makati Central Business District and its surrounding areas.
Construction activities for the 880 lineal meters project include Senator Gil Puyat Avenue/Makati Avenue-Paseo de Roxas vehicle underpass.
It also involves the construction of a four–lane, (2-3.5 meters each direction) divided vehicle underpass along inner most lanes of Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue passing through Makati Avenue and Paseo de Roxas intersections including a covered tunnel portion of about 570 meters.
The construction which was approved by President Benigno S. Aquino and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board costs P1.27 billion with 22 months construction duration is expected to provide uninterrupted traffic flow along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue passing through Makati Ave. and Paseo de Roxas Ave. by January 2017. (DPWH/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
