MANILA (PIA) — Manila Water Co. Inc. is accelerating the relocation of water and sewer facilities affected by the Metro Manila Subway Project to help clear construction areas while maintaining reliable services for communities in Metro Manila.
In a statement, the utility company said it is undertaking infrastructure adjustments in Pasig City and Quezon City as part of preparations for the Department of Transportation’s underground railway project, one of the national government’s major initiatives to improve public transportation and ease traffic congestion.
The Metro Manila Subway is among the government’s major infrastructure projects under the Marcos Jr. administration’s Build Better More program, which seeks to address infrastructure gaps and strengthen connectivity to support economic activity and public welfare.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has emphasized the need to sustain the implementation of major railway projects to improve connectivity and address congestion. During an inspection of the subway project in February 2026, he said the ongoing works demonstrated that implementation was “fully and actively underway.” Manila Water said four relocation projects are underway near the planned Shaw, East Avenue, Anonas and Ortigas stations. At the intersection of Meralco Avenue and Shaw Boulevard in Pasig, the company is permanently relocating a 600-millimeter steel pipeline affected by the Shaw Station construction.
The project was 67% complete as of the first week of August. In Quezon City, Manila Water is relocating water and sewer facilities along V. Luna Road in Barangay Pinyahan to make way for the East Avenue Station. The work includes pipe laying, manhole and valve box installation, water network modifications and the transfer of service connections.
Completion is targeted for October 2026. The sewer line relocation near the Anonas Station, covering portions of A. Luna Street, F. Castillo Street, J. Bugallon Street and E. Evangelista Street in Barangay Bagumbayan, is expected to be completed by the end of September. Meanwhile, two meter set assemblies affected by the Ortigas Station alignment are being relocated along Ortigas Avenue corner Meralco Avenue in Pasig.
The work is targeted for completion by the end of October. “These infrastructure adjustments are essential not only to accommodate a major national transport project but also to ensure that our customers continue to receive reliable water and wastewater services throughout the construction period,” Manila Water Corporate Communications Group Head Dittie Galang said. Manila Water said it is coordinating with the DOTr, contractors and other project stakeholders to carry out the relocation activities safely and efficiently, while minimizing possible disruptions to customers.
The Metro Manila Subway is planned to have 17 stations stretching from Valenzuela City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. The project is intended to improve connectivity and provide a more efficient transportation option for commuters. The utility relocations are designed to remove infrastructure that may obstruct subway construction and help protect the integrity of Manila Water’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems during the implementation of the project.
