PASIG CITY, July 1 (PIA)--Pasig City will be celebrating its 442nd foundation anniversary on Thursday, July 2.
The day has been declared a special non-working holiday by President Benigno Aquino III through Proclamation 1061.
Pasig City Mayor Maribel Eusebio said they prepared various activities in celebration of the City’s 442nd founding anniversary.
For July 2, there will be aPasig City Mega-wide Sale or “Diskuwento Pasigueno” in partnership with various barangays and establishments; Thanksgiving Mass (6:30 AM) – Santa Clara de Montefalco Church; Grand Parade (7:00 AM) – C. Raymundo Avenue in front of Santa Clara de Montefalco Church;Parade of Barangay Fiesta Festival (7:00 AM) at C. Raymundo Avenue in front of Santa Clara de Montefalco Church and Libreng Sakay sa Araw ng Pasig (5:00 AM to 5:00 PM) – Market to San Joaquin to Marikina.
On July 18, the city government will conduct a Kasalang Bayan "Araw ng Pasig Bride" at the Sta. Clara de Montefalco Church, Caniogan, a City-Wide Earthquake Drill on July 30 (Thursday) at 8:00am at the Ortigas Central Business District and the City Mayor is scheduled to deliver the State of the City Address (SOCA) on July 22 (Wednesday) at 9:00am at the Tanghalang Pasigueno.
Based on history, it was on July 2, 1573 that Pasig was first declared as a Visitacion Parish. The city’s official website claims that this is the first Marian parish in the country and perhaps even in the entire Asia.
Even if Pasig City is now regarded as one of the country’s premiere commercial center because of the Ortigas business district, it only became a city in 1994 through Republic Act 7829. (pasigcity.gov.ph/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
