PASAY CITY, Sept. 12 (PIA)--President Benigno S. Aquino III shared the Philippine experience in pursuit of inclusive growth at the 23rd Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) general meeting at the Sofitel Plaza in Pasay City held Friday.
Aquino told the government and civil society leaders from the Asia-Pacific region that human development is the country’s greatest resource and main fuel to the resurgent economy.
Aquino said his administration’s strategy to invest in the Filipino people through improved social services and infrastructure proved effective.
He cited the Conditional Cash Transfer Program whose beneficiaries are required to focus on the education and health of their children in order to receive cash assistance from the government.
“Given an average of about five members per household, this roughly translates to 22 million Filipinos who our government is assisting,” Aquino said.
Earlier this year, some 333,673 children belonging to the first batch of beneficiaries of the expanded CCT Program graduated from high school and are now more equipped to realize a brighter future for themselves and for their families.
Aquino also noted the K-12 program, and the training courses offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as strategies to empower students to take advantage of opportunities that arise.
He said that path the students choose, government has likewise implemented measures that ensure they reap the maximum benefit from their chosen course.
He added that the strategy and the success of human investment is a positive proof of the simple fact that economic progress is inseparable from the progress of the people.
