MANILA, Sept. 30 (PIA)--The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region awarded Far Eastern University (FEU) for its outstanding and long-term livelihood projects, training, seminars, education, legal assistance, and health services to the detainees of Manila City Jail Female Dormitory.
Dr. Marilou Cao, director of the FEU Office of Community Extension Services (OCES), received the award from BJMP-NCR during its 24th year anniversary celebration.
“The collective efforts of the academics led by the deans, faculty, employees and student leaders assured the success of Project HOPE, the university’s flagship program, to lend its resources through its auxiliary program TAM-CES-SHIFT (Skills Honing Individuals for Future Transformation) to the BJMP Inmates”, Dr. Cao Said.
TAM-CES-SHIFT projects include the Institute of Accounts Business and Finance (IABF) sponsored seminars namely, An Intro to Small Scale Business, Livelihood Programs and Entrepreneurship while Alumni Foundation Inc. Board members and Alumni Relations and Placement Services (ARPS) held livelihood program training on the Art of Beads Making and Bag Production from old newspapers.
The Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) supported the program with as series on The Art of Emotional Healing, Creative Therapy and Reflexology Training through its Psychology Department, and Sabayang Pagbigkas by Tanggapan ng Larangan ng Filipino (TLF) via the Filipino Department.
Other major BJMP undertakings are the maintenance of the female parlor and the training for massage therapists, and provision of salon materials and kits”, added Dr. Cao.
Superintendent Catherine Lopez Abueva, jail warden said, “FEU is being recognized for its very substantial programs and selfless service rendered through the Office of Community and Extension Services”. (FEU/RJB/SDL/PIA-NCR)
