MANILA, Oct.28, (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare- National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) celebrated its 37th Founding Anniversary with a big bang at the Cuneta Astrodome on October 23, 2015.
The Anniversary carried the theme “Tuloy sa Pagbangon at Pag-unlad” and was participated by its personnel including residents from its different institutions, partners from non-government organizations (NGOs), private companies, local government units (LGUs) government agencies.
The highlight of the morning activity was the 3rd State of the Region Address (SORA) delivered by DSWD-NCR Regional Director Alicia S. Bonoan.
Bonoan’s SORA detailed the implementation program accomplishments of the NCR Field Office. She shared that through the convergence efforts of everyone, the Field Office had successfully implemented social protection programs and services to the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors in the National Capital Region.
Among DSWD-NCR accomplishments for 2015 are the following:
On the supplementary feeding program, 168,286 day care pupils from 1,887 day care centers in Metro Manila benefited;

Under the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer for Homeless Street Families (MCCT-HSF) 4,078 homeless street families have been registered; 2,333 availed of alternative family homes and 2,126 are now under the cash for work program;
From May 2013 to June 2015, 6 barangays in Muntinlupa City and 10 barangays in Malabon City benefitted from the different projects under the Japan Social Development Fund-Livelihood for Vulnerable Urban Communities (JSDF-LVUC) program.
Around 557 were given skills training and facilitated employment with the assistance of DSWD-NCR’s active partners: the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO);
The amount of Livelihood Capital Assistance extended to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries from January to September 2015 totaled P64, 091,000;
Active Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries since 2008 is now 228,663 coming from 1,457 barangays in the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila;
In compliance to Expanded Senior Citizens Act of (RA 9994) 46,008 indigent seniors have been served;
Some 596 victims of trafficking were provided livelihood, transportation assistance and temporary shelter;
To give restorative justice, temporary shelter and other services to Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL), DSWD-NCR facilitated the building of Bahay Pag-asa in 10 LGUs;
And On-going operation of 12 residential and non-residential care facilities.
After the SORA, the 2015 Exemplary Pantawid Pamilya and Exemplary Children were cited and given cash awards and trophies. Partners and key stakeholders were also recognized.
Residents from its different facilities and institutions delighted the audience with dances and songs.
“Ang DSWD-NCR, katuwang ang iba’t ibang ahensya, mga lokal na pamahalaan, NGOs at CSOs ay nagtataguyod ng mga programa upang tugunan ang kahirapan at maprotektahan ang mga kababayan natin laban sa pang-aabuso at eksploytasyon” (DSWD-NCR in partnership with the different NGAs, NGOs, and CSOs will continue to implement programs to answer the needs of the poor, and protect the vulnerable from abuse and exploitation.) Bonoan enthused.
In her closing speech, Bonoan said,” Maraming hamon pa ang ating haharapin para sugpuin ang kahirapan subalit sa tulong ninyong lahat, kaya nating itawid ang mga nangangailangang mamamayan tungo sa inaasam nating kaunlaran. Asahan niyo na ang DSWD-NCR ay patuloy sa pagsasagawa ng matapat, mahusay, magiliw at mabilis na paglilingkod sa mga nanganangailangan nating mamamayan.” (DSWD-NCR/RJB/LFB)
