Marikina launches 2015 Sapatos Festival


MARIKINA CITY, Oct. 26 (PIA) – High quality shoes, bags, belts and more will again take the center stage in this year’s shoe festival in Marikina City.

The Sapatos Festival will kick-off today at the Plaza delos Alcaldez in front of the City Hall.

Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman said that the shoe festival is an event where the city showcases high-quality Philippine products.

“With the reopening of the shoe festival, I hope that the people will again patronize the shoe industry that provides livelihood to our countrymen and that contributes to our economy,” De Guzman added.    

Featured in the festival are shoes and other leather products at the Marikina Freedom Park starting today until December 30, 2015.

Other activities during the festival include: Feast of Saint Crispin (patron Saint of leather worker) at the Our Lady of the Abandoned Church on October 25, 5:00 PM; exhibit on the Evolution of Shoes at the City Hall Quadrangle on October 26-December 30, from 8AM-5PM; Philippine Footwear Leather Goods Trade Show at the 4/F of the Legislative Building on November 6-9, from 8AM-5PM; ‘Tour de Takong’ stiletto race at the Freedom Park on November 14 at 3PM; ‘Danza de Takong, a stiletto dance contest at the Freedom Park on November 27-28 (elimination) and on December 12 (finals) at 6PM; Time Capsule at the Sentrong Pangkultura (Kapitan Moy) on December 4 at 7AM; and rand Parade, Festival Queen, Street Dance Competition, and Float Parade on December 5, Marikina Sports Center at 3PM.      

Meanwhile to further the celebration shoe festival, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 55, 2015 or known as “Ordinance institutionalizing the conduct of Sapatos Festival every year in Makati City. (MARIKINA/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
