MANILA, 31 March (PIA) – President Benigno S. Aquino III called on print media practitioners and publishers to deliver the right information during the opening ceremonies of Publish Asia 2016 held at the Manila Hotel Wednesday morning.
President Aquino was welcomed by foreign and local journalists led by its Group Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers-International Federal Research Association (WAN-IFRA), Mr. Pichai Chuensuksawadi.
The President said that print media has a special role in disseminating information in the light of the ever-changing technology.
He also noted the importance of delivering the right information that the people can trust.
“It is true that your job is much more complicated today because of the need to expand your operations to new media forms, which have their own limitations in terms of dissemination. At the same time, dissemination does not matter so much as the most basic responsibility, which is to deliver information—information that the people can trust, can lead to fruitful discussions on issues of national and global importance, that can even lead to positive transformation. This is the value and the service that you must provide,” said President Aquino.
Publish Asia 2016 is the annual gathering of more than 300 media executives from over 30 countries. The three-day event focuses on master, classes, conference sessions and networking events.
Since 2000, the conference addresses the management and business issues facing news media and examines emerging new business models and revenue streams for news publishers. (RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
