MANILA, Nov. 07 (PIA) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns the public on the purchase and use of an unregistered drug product “Bignay Herbal Tea.”
In an advisory issued by FDA Director General Nela Charade Puno, RPh (FDA Advisory No. 2016-121) dated November 2, 2016, “the product poses potential danger or injury to the consuming public and the importation, selling or offering for sale of such is in direction violation of Republic Act No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.”
The FDA advises consumers to purchase their medications only from FDA-licenses establishments. Consumers are advised to look for FDA Registration number on the product label to ensure the quality and safety of health products. According to the FDA, drug products registered with FDA Philippines bear information on labels - in English and/or in Filipino for all consumers to understand.
Likewise, FDA warned all establishments and outlets against selling and/or dispensing this unregistered product. Violators will be penalized.
All local government units and law enforcement agencies were also requested to ensure that this unregistered product is not sold or offered for sale in their localities or area of jurisdiction.
