QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Months before the May midterm elections, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reminds the public of banned items during the election period.

According to NCRPO, a gun ban is being imposed until June 11, 2025, under Commission on Election (COMELEC) Resolution No. 11067. Under Section 261 (q) of the Omnibus Election Code, any person is prohibited from carrying firearms outside of their residence or place of business during the election period unless authorized by the Commission.

Aside from guns, NCRPO reminds the public that airsoft guns, firearms replicas, sharp objects, and explosives are strictly prohibited during this period.

The NCRPO added that during the gun ban period, only regular members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and other law enforcement agencies duly deputized by COMELEC may carry firearms.

Earlier, NCRPO strategically placed checkpoints across the country will serve as a vital tool for enforcing election laws, particularly the prohibition of firearms and other security measures.

Motorists are advised to do the following when passing checkpoints:

  • Slow down
  • Dim vehicle headlight
  • Turn on cabin light
  • Roll down window
  • Allow visual search

Meanwhile, motorists are advised to avoid doing the following at checkpoints:

  • Open glove compartment or trunk
  • Step out of the vehicle
  • Subject self to body search

NCRPO chief PBGen Anthony A. Aberin assured that the Metro Manila police force will continue to uphold the law. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
