MANDALUYONG CITY, Aug. 1 (PIA)--The Inter-agency Council for Traffic (i-ACT) has started implementing traffic policies along Ortigas Avenue and around the Greenhills area, in Mandaluyong City specifically at La Salle Green Hills (LSGH).
The i-ACT, together with other traffic enforcement agencies, warns parents of LSGH students that they will issue traffic violation tickets and will tow illegally parked vehicles along the area as parking is strictly prohibited.
Designated drop-off zones (where waiting is not allowed) along Westbound (going to San Juan) are: waiting shed near the flyover and after Gate 6 and along Eastbound (going to EDSA) near the footbridge.
Any vehicle waiting along Ortigas Avenue for more than 30 seconds will be issued a traffic citation ticket for illegal parking.
However, vehicles are only allowed to use one lane of Ortigas Avenue to enter the campus, only when LSGH guards start allowing entry to the school.
Vehicles coming from Ortigas Eastbound and EDSA Southbound through the service road and would occupy Ortigas Westbound 2nd lane, will merge on one lane before the entrance of Gate 4B while, vehicles coming from Ortigas flyover shall occupy the flyover right lane in preparation for merging on Lane 1 right before Gate 6 entrance upon cue of LSGH personnel and traffic enforcers.
The school’s color coding scheme will also be implemented outside of the campus. The school personnel will display colored flags at the footbridge to indicate which car with corresponding sticker color may line up already.
Fetchers whose wards/students are not yet ready to be picked-up shall move out, return and line up again. Vehicles who should line up again can go towards Connecticut, turn right to EDSA and enter Ortigas Avenue again. U-turn in Ortigas Avenue Shell is allowed from 2pm-4:30pm.
Local governments of Mandaluyong and San Juan both expressed their support for the implementation of traffic policies.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), for its part, will install CCTV cameras along Ortigas Avenue and infront of LSGH. They will also deploy ground enforcers with handheld video cameras for implementation of no contact apprehension policy.
“The MMDA wants to see a clear view of the area to ensure that traffic flow will go smoothly as traffic rules are strictly enforced,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said.
Department of Transportation Undersecretary and i-ACT Chairperson Tim Orbos is hopeful that these traffic mitigating measures will eventually ease up vehicular flow in the area.
“With these policies, I am optimistic that traffic woes along Ortigas Avenue will get better and motorists who enter the LSGH premises will be more disciplined as time goes by,” Orbos said.
Meanwhile, the LSGH management recognized i-ACT’s efforts to fully solve the traffic problem in the vicinity.
“Our school fully supports this to help government ease our shared traffic burden,” an school official said in a statement. (PIA-NCR)
