QUEZON CITY, Feb. 3 (PIA)--The LRT-2 East Extension Project is a 3.8-kilometer rail extension line which will connect the existing LRT-2 end point Santolan Station to Masinag, Antipolo City is nearing completion, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
According to the DOTr’s FB post, the project construction consist of three packages. Package 1 is the construction of the viaduct, and this is already 100% complete. Package 2 is the design and build of two additional stations - Emerald Station located at Marikina City, and the Masinag Station in Antipolo City - and this is now 96.12% complete.
Meanwhile, Package 3, which is the design and build of the trackworks and electromechanical component system, is at 37.56% completion rate.
Based on the progress report for the LRT--2 East Extension Project is at 76.90% as of end-2019.
Once completed, this will reduce travel time from Manila to Antipolo from 3 hours via PUB or PUJ to only 40 minutes. It is also expected to increase ridership, and accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers daily.
The DOTr also informs the public that after a highly-technical intervention, the currently suspended operations from Santolan to Anonas is expected to resume by the end of June 2020.
This, after the required parts and equipment needed for the line repair and restoration underwent stringent government processes of procurement, and its delivery, installation, testing, and commisioning that require significant period has been implemented.
The LRT 2 Santolan to Anonas operation was suspended since last year when the power supply transformers in between Anonas and Katipunan stations and in the Santolan depot tripped on October 2019. The incident led to a fire that damaged railway tracks along Anonas in Quezon City. (DOTr/PIA-NCR)
