PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos today ordered the preventive suspension of two traffic enforcers reportedly involved in the extortion video that went viral on social media this week.
Abalos served the notice of charge to traffic enforcers Raul Gulmatico and Corazon Castañeda, placing them on 90-day preventive suspension pending the result of investigation for the following charges: extortion, grave misconduct, and other offenses punishable by dismissal from service.
“Gulmatico, in conspiracy with Castañeda extorted and received a certain amount of money from a motorist they apprehended in Baclaran in Paranaque City,” the MMDA Legal and Legislative Affairs Staff said.
Based on the video taken, Castañeda was seen handing over his traffic violation receipt to Gulmatico, who then proceeded to the motorist. Then the motorist was seen handing money to Gulmatico, which the latter accepted.
Both enforcers were also directed to answer the charges against them within three days.
Meanwhile, anyone who wishes to complain about unscrupulous activities involving MMDA personnel can report through MMDA’s social media platforms, such as Facebook or MMDA Twitter page.
“Rest assured, our leadership shall continue cleansing our ranks of all kinds of erring personnel.
We encourage the public to report illegal activities involving our personnel and we will promptly act on their complaint,” said Abalos.
