MANILA, (PIA) — The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) convened for its 3rd Quarter Full Council Meeting on Wednesday, September 18, approving significant resolutions aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and response across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The meeting, presided over by MMDA Chairman and MMDRRMC Chairperson Atty. Romando Artes, was attended by key officials from member agencies and local DRRM officers, including OCD-NCR Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Division Chief Rodella Rosario Rodriguez who represented OCD-NCR Director and MMDRRMC Senior Vice-Chair George F. Keyser, Atty. Victor Pablo Trinidad and Atty. Crisanto Saruca of the MMDA, BGEN Eric Macaambac of JTF-NCR, Dir. Dimapuno Datu-Ramos Jr. of NCMF-NCR, ARD Analyn Baltazar-Cortez of DILG-NCR, and JSSUPT Christine Lopez-Abueva of BJMP-NCR.

The council approved the Resolution Institutionalizing the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in NCR, which aims to streamline the assessment and recovery processes in the aftermath of disasters.

The PDNA is an internationally accepted methodology for determining the physical damages, economic losses, and costs of meeting recovery needs after a natural disaster through a government-led process.

Additionally, the MMDRRMC passed the Resolution Enjoining Member Agencies and LGUs to Support the Conduct of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024, scheduled to be hosted in the Philippines.

The APMCDRR is one of the most important gatherings in the Asia-Pacific to progress disaster risk reduction efforts. Up to 3,000 delegates from more than 40 countries are expected to attend the Conference including ministers, government officials, representatives of the private sector, not-for-profits, civil society, and vulnerable groups.

During the meeting, the four vice-chairs from the DOST-NCR, DILG-NCR, DSWD-NCR and the MMDA, presented updates on their respective thematic areas, highlighting recent accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and future efforts to enhance disaster resilience across Metro Manila.

Your dedication truly makes a difference, and it is because of this that we can face the challenges that come our way,” Atty. Artes said, expressing his gratitude to the MMDRRMC member agencies and LGUs for their unwavering support and tireless efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of communities in NCR.

The meeting’s agenda also covered weather updates, the current status of Mpox cases in NCR, a review of Local DRRM Plans, and preparations for the APMCDRR, underscoring the council’s comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction and management in the region. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
