Quezon City – The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced a new partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to expand educational opportunities for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

This initiative, known as “Tagapangalaga Ko, Guro Ko,” aims to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of PDLs through education.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara lauded the program, emphasizing its focus on providing educational access through the Alternative Learning System (ALS). He stressed the importance of inclusivity in education, stating, “This memorandum of agreement reinforces our commitment to leave no one behind. Every Filipino, regardless of their circumstances, deserves a chance to learn and grow.”

Angara further highlighted the program’s impact on restoring “hope and dignity” for individuals in detention.

BJMP Chief Ruel Rivera expressed gratitude for the collaboration, emphasizing its significance in promoting a fair and humane society.

He stated, “This initiative showcases the joint effort of the BJMP and the Department of Education, united under a common goal to create a just and humane society through the value of education.”
