QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Makati City officials distributed health kits aimed at managing diabetes and hypertension to local residents, as part of an initiative to enhance public health services. A total of 969 hypertension kits and 1,006 diabetes kits were given out to Makatizens on October 7.

Mayor Abby Binay emphasized the importance of the program, stating that it is a critical component of the city’s broader health strategy.

By providing these monitoring kits, we are not just equipping our citizens with tools; we are empowering them to take control of their health before they face critical health issues,” she said.

Data from the city’s free medicine program revealed that maintenance medications for diabetes and hypertension are among the most frequently dispensed to recipients of the Yellow Card program.

Binay noted that regular health monitoring can help reduce the risk of serious complications, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

The hypertension kit includes an adult aneroid sphygmomanometer, a stethoscope, a non-communicable disease (NCD) booklet with a monitoring diary, dietary guidelines, an exercise plan, an emergency contact bracelet, and a storage bag.

Meanwhile, the diabetes kit features a glucometer with 25 strips and lancets, cotton balls, a similar emergency contact bracelet, a diabetes management booklet, a transparent storage bag, and a sharps collector for safe disposal of used needles.

In addition to the distribution of health kits, the city organizes regular health education sessions, community support initiatives, and access to specialized medical advice and screenings.

These benefits are designed to foster a proactive approach to health management, encouraging residents to maintain their health and prevent disease progression,” Binay explained. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
