QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) launched on Friday, December 13, the “Tamang Asal Sa Kalsada” (TASK) Central Hub which features an interactive gallery that teaches basic road safety tips for children.

NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr. highlighted the importance of this initiative that “integrates history, education, and a shared commitment to fostering a safe and responsible community” for Filipino children who are most vulnerable in roads.

The TASK Central Hub essentially allows children to learn common road signs and basic traffic rules in a simulated environment where they can experience crossing the pedestrian safely by following traffic lights.

This child-oriented road safety initiative was recognized by the Quezon City Tourism Department as it serves as an advocacy to invest in the formation of cautious pedestrians and responsible road users.

“On behalf of the citizens of Quezon City, we would like to congratulate the key agencies and organizations behind the TASK Central Hub. Teaching road safety awareness and street manners at an early age is not just about avoiding accidents, it’s about empowering our children with life skills that hold independence and responsibility,” said Acting Chief Tourism Operations Officer Giana Aira Barata.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Land Transportation Office (LTO), also supported the replication of similar initiatives to instill a culture of shared responsibility in roads.

“(We) share and support the common vision of exemplifying through education of young children towards proper street manners, conduct, and road safety because it is crucial in the formation of responsible future road users,” said Director Eduardo De Guzman of LTO.

The establishment of the Task Central Hub was made possible through the support of the San Miguel Holdings Corporation (SMHC), one of the country’s reliable infrastructure arm that works closely with the national government for the construction of sustainable road networks.

“To the NHCP and the LTO, your dedication to the preservation and promotion of our history and road safety is unparalleled. Your efforts not only enrich their understanding of the past but also illuminate paths towards a future filled with our pride and our identity,” SMHC Corporate Affairs Office Head Atty. Melissa Encanto-Tagarda remarked, extending the gratitude of the corporation for the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of road safety among the young generation.

The launching of the gallery coincides with the reopening of the historic Presidential Car Museum at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

Both the Presidential Car Museum and the TASK Central Hub are open to the public every Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
