QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have partnered to provide entrepreneurial training and business support to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families for productive reintegration into their communities.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Migrants Brew in DMW Makati Building on 14 January 2025, pledging both agencies to collaborate in supporting OFWs on their business ventures.

The agreement paves way for both agencies to empower OFWs and their families by assisting on their micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through entrepreneurial training and seminars for the promotion of their products.

The DTI will lead efforts to promote investment choices for OFWs, including franchising as a business option. They will also help OFW beneficiaries get financial support from government banks and private partners.

On the other hand, the DMW will identify and evaluate beneficiaries who can qualify to avail of the services.

The DMW will also keep track of a database for beneficiaries, especially those who have finished their business registration, entrepreneurial training, and other services or financial help.

One of the partnership programs between DMW and DTI is “Buy Lokal, By OFWs.” This project, led by the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), focuses on promoting products, businesses, and services made in the local area.

The project supports DTI’s “Go Lokal” program, which encourages top-quality Filipino goods and involves OFWs in marketing and distribution to help them grow their reach.

The agreement is among the various partnerships of the DMW with other government agencies and key social partners in providing a full and comprehensive reintegration help for OFWs and their families. (JLN/PIA-NCR)
