MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices being paid by the agency, cutting the cost of gasoline nearly in half compared to previous years.

This initiative is part of PHLPost’s commitment to good governance and aims to enhance sustainability in its mail delivery services across the country.

Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos, who took office recently, identified the high fuel costs, which were around P107 per liter at the time.

In response, he immediately reviewed existing contracts and engaged directly with the gasoline supplier to negotiate a better deal.

As a result of these efforts, PHLPost has successfully reduced the average price to approximately P67 per liter.

This reduction is a direct result of our good governance practices,” Carlos said.

We are focused on maintaining reliability, efficiency, and transparency while addressing the needs of the mailing public,” he added.

To further manage fuel consumption, PHLPost has implemented stricter monitoring measures.

The organization now sets spending limits, tracks fuel usage patterns, and has established a system for monitoring fuel expenses.

Vehicles in the fleet are equipped with fleet cards that correspond to their license plates, ensuring accountability.

Additionally, PHLPost has ceased operations at its oil depot at the CMEC motor pool in Pasay City, which previously contributed to inflated fuel costs.

Drivers can now refuel at any gas station, streamlining the process and reducing expenses.

Carlos emphasized the necessity of resource management amid rising global gasoline prices.

We must minimize our expenses and implement good governance policies focused on accountability, transparency, and anti-corruption measures,” he said.

This strategic move by PHLPost not only lowers operational costs but also paves the way for more affordable services for the public, ensuring that the organization continues to meet the demands of its customers effectively. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
