Quiapo Church, NCRPO appeal to Nazarene devotees to observe solemn, peaceful celebration

MANILA, (PIA) — The Quiapo Church administration and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) appealed to devotees of the Black Nazarene and to the public to observe a solemn and peaceful celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9.

A few days before the annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene, authorities of Quiapo Church called on devotees and faithful to participate in and maintain the sacredness of the Holy Mass, and avoid causing distraction.

During the Traslacion, devotees are encouraged to participate in the procession and pray at designated prayer stations.

Quiapo Church reminded devotees to avoid blocking the path of the procession and likewise discouraged devotees climbing the ‘Andas’ for other devotees and faithful see the image of Jesus of Nazarene.

Devotees are allowed to throw handkerchiefs to designated ‘Hijos Del Nazereno’ on board the Andas.

Observance of health and safety protocols is also encouraged.



Meanwhile, NCRPO chief PBGen Anthony A. Aberin also called for the cooperation of devotees.

Let us work together to honor this sacred occasion by following the rules and ensuring a peaceful celebration,” said Aberin.

Police authorities remind devotees of the following prohibitions during the celebration:

  • Hoodie jacket
  • Hat/Cap
  • Bag
  • Water bottle
  • Alcoholic drinks or people who are intoxicated with alcohol
  • Umbrella or raincoat
  • Firecrackers and pyrotechnics
  • Illegal vendors
  • Deadly weapons or any firearm

Wearing of jewelry and bringing expensive gadgets are also highly discouraged.

Likewise, police authorities appealed to the public especially senior citizens, pregnant, and those who are sick to avoid participating in the celebration.

Parents and guardians are also advised to avoid bringing infants and children.



The NCRPO also advises devotees to know ahead the designated health and rescue team, and police desks for emergency needs.

Earlier, over 12,000 police personnel along with over 2,000 personnel from other government agencies are in place to ensure an orderly, peaceful, and solemn celebration of the Black Nazarene Feast. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
