Taguig’s Maharlika Village gets a major facelift

By Jimmyley I. Guzman

TAGUIG CITY, July 3 (PIA) -- Construction is now in full swing at the public park in Maharlika Village, Taguig City to give it a major face-lift for the benefit of the Muslim community in the area and the public.

“The major improvements made on the park in Maharlika Village are envisioned to provide surrounding communities a common area for rest and recreation that is both aesthetically-appealing as it is functional,” Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

She added that the project is also part of a bigger master plan to develop the village into a center of commerce and a hub for strengthening community relations.

The Maharlika Landscape Development Plan is jointly implemented by the national government through the Office of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the City Government of Taguig.

The project, situated near the famous Blue Mosque, was initiated early this year and most of the improvements are expected to reach completion by the end of July.

According to the city government, Phase 1 to Phase 4 of the plan include the construction of sufficiently lighted and paved walkways; landscaped lawn areas with rock sculptures and other enhancements; pavilions and gazebos; a dry fountain area; a rotunda near the parking area; and a highly-functional amphitheater, among others.

Future plans for the park also include the construction of tennis and basketball courts as well as a children’s playground.

“We believe that the development of the park in Maharlika Village will strengthen the community in the area. It will also revitalize the recreational activities of the residents,” Cayetano added. (TAGUIG-PIO/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
