QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — With full speed ahead towards more modern and efficient public transportation, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. in his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday has described that the country is in the midst of a “railway renaissance.”

The Metro Manila Subway Project has logged significant accomplishments in its tunneling works,” said President Marcos, Jr.

The President said that works are steadily progressing with around three to six stories deep had been excavated.

Other railway projects, such as the MRT-7 and the North-South Commuter Railway, are likewise progressing,” he added.

Pres. Marcos, Jr. also stressed that the administration will make sure that issues on the right of way are resolved.

We will make sure that the right of way issues are resolved in the most equitable, efficient, and expeditious manner, so that these will not get in the way of our infrastructure development.”

The Metro Manila Subway Project aims to cut travel time between Quezon City and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from the present one hour and 10 minutes to just 35 minutes.

Once operational, the underground railway system can service up to 370,000 passengers.

Aside from the subway project, the route of the LRT Line 1 in Metro Manila will be extended from Baclaran to Sucat which will be opened to train commuters this year and will be extended up to Bacoor in Cavite in the next years.

The President also reported that an additional 76 new and modern trains were added at LRT 1 for a faster, more comfortable ride for train commuters.

He also cited the recent opening of the Bicol Line of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) with a length of 100 kilometers, from Naga to Legazpi. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
