QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is actively sending assistance to communities severely hit by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, ensuring that its National Relief Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City is well-stocked with family food packs for those in need.
To date, the DSWD has dispatched over 30,000 family food packs to various regions in Luzon affected by heavy rainfall, with the Bicol Region receiving the largest share of 11,000 packs yesterday, in a report over PTV’s Balitang Pambansa by the Philippine Information Agency National Capital Region.
Additional distributions included 3,900 food packs to the Cagayan Valley Region and 1,800 to MIMAROPA, the report added.
The agency is also preparing to send another 14,000 family food packs to the Bicol Region, with more than 186,000 packs reserved at the NROC ready for deployment as needed.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian previously assured that the department’s stockpiles at field offices are sufficient to meet the needs of those affected by the storm.
Each food pack contains six kilograms of rice, ten cans of food, and ten sachets of coffee, designed to provide sustenance for families of five for two to three days.
The DSWD leadership has announced that they are continuing to repack supplies, targeting the production of 20,000 family food packs daily.
