Solutions to PUVs, railways, maritime issues to be tackled in 2nd KBP

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The second episode of “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” (KBP) featuring the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday, June 4, will tackle timely solutions to issues affecting public transportation, rails, and the maritime service.

The press conference, which will take place at the Land Transportation Office in Quezon City at 9:00 a.m., features key officials from the DOTr and its attached agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure, Jesus Ferdinand “Andy” Ortega, will kick off the discussion with updates on several programs such as the Public Transport Modernization Program, Active Transport initiatives, the EDSA Busway and Greenways, Service Contracting Program, and various road projects in Cebu and Davao.

Assistant Secretary for Railways, Jorjette Aquino, will follow with a report on major railway projects across Metro Manila and other regions, emphasizing improvements and expansions aimed at enhancing the commuter experience.

Captain Edgardo Diaz, CAAP Deputy Director General for Operations, will provide insights into ongoing development projects in airports, the implementation of night-rating systems for airports to operate after dark, and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) schemes for airport projects.

Engr. Marc Anthony Pascua, MARINA NCR Regional Director, will discuss initiatives in the maritime sector, including the Legalization Program for wooden-hulled passenger ships, ship safety compliance and monitoring, streamlining documentary requirements for ship document issuance, and MARINA’s proposed organizational structure and blockchain system.

An audio-visual presentation will also showcase the DOTr’s mission to provide a Comfortable, Accessible, Safe, Sustainable, and Affordable (CASSA) transport system.

Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas is organized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), through the 16 regional offices of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), with the aim of keeping the public informed about government initiatives and achievements.

The forum will be simultaneously broadcast across all regions through PIA’s Facebook pages.

Next week’s episode will feature the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), continuing the series every Tuesday until July. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
