MANILA (PIA) — Consistent with the President’s marching order, the Department of Labor Employment (DOLE) is set to launch a special job fair that would exclusively cater to 70 percent of the total number of Filipino workers who were displaced by virtue of an executive order imposing a ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country.

According to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, DOLE has so far profiled close to 27,000 workers from 54 POGOs and Internet Gaming Licensees (IGL) in time for the initial kick-off in the first week of October.

Citing the need to improve employment conditions, Laguesma emphasized the importance of obtaining lists from six remaining companies to facilitate appropriate interventions as the “ber” months approach.

“Historically, the employment situation gets better in the ‘ber’ months, as seen in 2022 and 2023. We expect a similar trend for 2024,” he said.

According to the July 2024 Labor Force Survey, the country’s employment rate stands at 95.3 percent, equating to approximately 47.70 million employed individuals, while the underemployment rate stands at 12.1 percent, affecting about 5.78 million workers. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
