QUEZON CITY (PIA)—Consistent with the modern-day requirement to land a decent-paying job, the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) forged partnerships with four academic institutions primarily designed to equip students with science communication skills.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), signed with Dr. Arcadio Santos National High School in Parañaque City, Cotta National High School in Lucena City, Governor Ferrer Memorial Integrated High School in Cavite, and Ismael Mathay Senior High School in Quezon City, DOST-STII will develop capacity-building programs on science communication, promotion, and advocacy.

The one-year agreement embarks on in-person or online training courses, student and expert exchanges, and shared facilities for training and campaign development.

“The ability of our students to understand and express their thoughts, insights, and learning on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or STEM, is very crucial in determining success or failure,” said Rodolfo P. De Guzman, chief of the DOST-STII’s Communication Resources and Production Division.

School officials expressed their gratitude for the partnership, underscoring its significance in enhancing their students’ skills and their schools’ journalism programs.

“We are looking for more collaboration and engagement with you to further enhance our teachers in terms of quality of delivery and instructions, and of course to strengthen our Special Program for Journalism,” said Dr. Ferdinand A. Fontillo, Principal IV of Ismael Mathay Sr. High School.

(We at Cotta National High School are sincerely grateful for this very important event in the history of our school. [Because] we just happened to have a very important partner. So we will treasure this moment. Rest assured, Cotta National High School will continue whatever we have started.)

The principals of the four partner schools attended the ceremonial signing. They were also given a tour of the DOST-STII’s facilities, including its STARBOOKS digital library and the DOSTv studio.

The partnership addresses the need for effective science communication, which is crucial in translating research and scientific knowledge for the public. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
