QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The city government of Taguig City is revolutionizing public education with the launch of its “DigiTech” program that aims to provide every public school classroom with state-of-the-art Smart television sets, tablet computers, and interactive screens, along with high-speed internet access.
“This reflects our collective commitment to ensuring every student in Taguig has access to quality education,” said Mayor Lani Cayetano.
“We are proactively addressing the learning challenges in our education sector with concrete solutions,” she added.
The local government officially unveiled three modern learning spaces at the Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School as part of the DigiTech initiative.
These include a robotics laboratory that features a hands-on learning environment for robotics and automation; a computer laboratory for coding, programming, and digital literacy; and a digital classroom for interactive and immersive lessons.
With Taguig DigiTech, all 52 public schools in the city will benefit from reliable WiFi connectivity, giving students and teachers access to modern digital resources.
Each classroom will be equipped with SMART TVs, and six pilot schools will showcase interactive learning through the installation of 406 Interactive Smart Screens.
The program represents a significant investment in digital infrastructure.
Taguig City has also provided 3,000 tablet computers for digital classrooms, supported by 104 charging carts; 1,350 laptops for high school computer labs; 1,600 desktop computers for high school students; 2,451 Samsung SMART TVs installed across 46 public schools; 406 Interactive SMART Screens in six pilot schools.
In addition to upgrading technology, Taguig DigiTech emphasizes responsible internet use.
Digital literacy will teach students to stay safe online, think critically, and use technology ethically. The curriculum includes training on Responsible Digital Citizenship, basic cybersecurity, and digital safety measures to help students avoid online scams.
The program also integrates digital education into core subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Reading, while select senior high schools will offer advanced topics such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and multimedia design.
To bolster this initiative, Taguig DigiTech will provide extensive training for teachers to help them effectively utilize digital tools in the classroom. Educators will learn strategies to enhance student engagement and implement Learning Management Systems (LMS) to track progress and improve outcomes.
“Every child in Taguig deserves to dream, succeed, and have a bright future. We must equip them with the right tools and knowledge to achieve this,” Cayetano added. “Today marks a significant step toward fulfilling that vision.” (GLG/PIA-NCR)
